Tennessee tops list of states with most rural hospital closures
With the closure of McKenzie Regional Hospital, Tennessee now has more rural hospital closures than any other state. The reasons for the closing is a rise in uninsured patients and lack of reimbursement from insurers, including Medicaid. Now, one more community has lost access to an emergency room and the good jobs the hospital provided are no longer. This closure will result in longer drives to get emergency care, potentially costing lives.
Tennessee Republicans failure to pass Medicaid expansion is shameful. All Tennesseans deserve a nearby emergency room when someone suffers a heart attack or stroke. Electing more Democrats to the State House and State Senate is imperative is we want to save our hospitals and the Tennesseans they serve.
