Absentee ballot information

Absentee ballot requests for the November 3, 2020 election are now being processed by county election commission offices and you can request an absentee ballot up to October 27, 2020.  This year the ballot request now has two additional reasons to make the request.  They are the third and fourth options on the form and read:

  • I am hospitalized, ill or physically disabled and unable to appear at my polling place to vote (this includes persons who have underlying medical or health conditions which in their determination render them more susceptible to contracting COVID-19 or at greater risk should they contract it).
  • I am a caretaker of a hospitalized, ill or physically disabled person (this includes voters who care for or reside with persons who have underlying medical or health conditions which in their determination render them more susceptible to contracting COVID-19 or at greater risk should they contract it).

For a list of underlying health conditions that makes a person more susceptible, see https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/need-extra-precautions/people-with-medical-conditions.html.
A physician’s statement is not required to check this box.

Your absentee ballot request form may not be hand delivered to the election office.  It must be mailed (U.S. Postal Service, Fedex, UPS, etc).  Also, if you request an absentee ballot you may not vote in person.

Further information about voting by absentee ballot, please visit the Tennessee Secretary of State website.
